Since I'm thinking constantly about ASoIaF (the main story) for a while now I have to say it's really exausting to be an Arya stan.
The community is great, yes. There is a lot of good people
But the thing is
You enter tumblr
You search her tag
And instead of pretty gifsets
Well written metas
And pretty fanarts
What you see the most is people (we know who) mischaracterizing her, attacking her stans, twisting the narrative of the books about something important that involves Arya into something that doesn't even make sense only to downplay her importance, denying the part she plays on the key 5, not to mention how fixed these people are with her appearance.
I don't know how the stans and content creators are dealing with anon hate nowadays because I have been off for a really long time, (and I will continue to be, tbh), but I remember they were terrible, (anons actually saying Lyanna deserved to be raped to other anons wishing op to slit their wrists and kill themselves)
It's tiring.
And it has been the same for like... years now.

Behold, a few (ahem, nearly 30) books that are on my radar for this year! As ever, there is romance and romantasy and dark academia, but also some YA, some thrillers, some cozy reads, and *two* Dramione repackages, for good measure. So, you know – my usual fare.
Which books are you most looking forward to this year?

july anticipated releases
(note: i have not yet read any of these and cannot speak to their quality- i’m just intrigued by the synopsis or author!)
The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst is a cozy fantasy about a woman and her familiar (a sentient spider plant) open an illegal spell shop and falls in love with her nosy neighbor.
The Dallergut Dream Department Store by Mi-Yee Lee (translated by Sandy Joosun Lee) is a Korean novel about a store that sells dreams. I believe this is also sort of a cozy fantasy, but I'm not sure!
Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle is a novel about a Hollywood writer who is being pressured to kill off the gay characters in his long-running series. When he refuses, monsters from his past begin to haunt him. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but I'm intrigued!
I Was a Teenage Slasher by Stephen Graham Jones is a slasher movie from the point of view of the teenaged boy cursed to be the slasher. I love SGJ and I'll read pretty much anything he writes.
The Blonde Dies First by Joelle Wellington is another slasher with a twist- when a group of teens accidentally summon a demon that follows slasher movie tropes, Devon realizes that the group's blonde, she's up to die first, while her longtime crush is slated to be the final girl.

I designed the hardcover edition of The Line Madder! :D It's closely based on both the current paperback version and the first edition of the book that released in 2017. Here it is (back, front, and spine) without the blurb and bio text.
Tumblr media
I went for the sort of symbol-based flat design style I've been using for the other hardcover editions of my books :) I like the hardcovers to sort of match. I'm super excited to see what it looks like in print, and to have this (nearly.... seven year old.... what) book as a hardcover on my shelf!

hi devon! im rereading unmasking autism after reading neuroqueer heresies by nick walker earlier this year. i am trans and audhd and get so much from both your and nick's work. i realized while reading that i was surprised her work wasn't mentioned in unmasking autism. is there any particular reason for that? i feel like your frameworks dovetail well. im curious if there's something im missing.
thanks!
That book came out in November of 2021. The final draft of Unmasking Autism was due to the publisher on April 2021.

Beginning of the Year Book Tag | 2025
hi friends, this book tag popped up on my tiktok fyp a couple of times this month and i decided to join in on the fun and give y'all a snippet of what you can expect from my blog this year!
how many books are you planning to read in 2025?
my reading goal for 2025 is 25 books. the past two years i set high reading goals for myself that i was lucky enough to meet; however, this success came at a price. while other creators may like reading 40/50 books a month, i don’t, because usually i'm only reading that amount of books a month if i'm trying to meet a goal not cuz i'm actually enjoying the books! so 25 books it is for me this year.
a book you are likely to reread this year?
i will be rereading the Crossfire Series as i usually do every year. however, this year's reread will be special since Ireland (a crossfire spinoff) is being released in April.
a priority read on your 2025 TBR?
i really wanna read Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler this year, because I've only heard raving reviews about it. i am also dying to read Ireland by Sylvia Day and catching up with the Cross family and how they been the past decade!
an author, you won’t be reading more books from this year?
my DNR list is long and extensive and full of shitty authors whose books i won't touch with a ten-foot pole. however, for this prompt i will choose an author whose books have disappointed me rather than them being a shit-human, and that's Amanda Montell.
something new you want to read? genre? trope?
hmm, two of my top five favourite books of last year were speculative sci-fi and so i want read more books like that and see if it'll become my new favourite genre. i also want to branch out of my comfort zone this year and read thriller/horror novels!
a popular book you want to read?
in 2023 i tipped my toes into the cozy fantasy pool and quite liked it; and so this year i will be reading the most popular book in that genre: Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree!
most anticipated 2025 book releases?
thanks to Sylvia Day finally releasing a Crossfire spinoff, i am excitedly anticipating the release of Ireland. i am also anticipating the release of The Apothecary Diaries volumes so i can continue on gushing over #jinmao.
a bookish goal for 2025?
i set up a "25 for 2025" genre challenge on storygraph that i am excited to tackle and finish off by the end of the year. feel free to join me if you want to!
a book that’s been on your TBR a long time?
Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson, unfortunately i don't think i will be reading it this year. or maybe i will. who knows with my volatile reading moods?!
a series you want to read this year?
i want to start and finish The Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes this year because I was pretty intreagued by its premise back in the day.
your auto-buy authors for 2025?
Sylvia Day, obviously!
SenLinYu, Julie Soto, and Brigitte Knightley (Dramione, baby!!)
Tatsuya Endo, Natsu Hyuuga, Tomohito Oda (ie; every Mnagka whose Manga i'm currently reading)
book adaptation you are excited about this year?
there are a few adaptations i'm excited for this year, namely:
The Apothecary Diaries Season Two
Spy X Family Season Three
A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms
a sequel you are anticipating?
The Apothecary Diaries Vol. 13 and Spy X Family Vol. 13
bookish things you are leaving in 2024?
this year, i will not fall the hype no matter what. if i am not interested in the book, i am not reading it!!!
what to expect from this blog?
hopefully, unlike the previous years, this time around, i will strive to post monthly updates and book, show, and movie reviews! i hope my low reading goal will help me deal with the depressive bouts i tend to get around mid-year and keep posting consistently!
how has your reading taste evolved since last year?
apparently, I like speculative sci-fi, love it actually! who woulda thunk? not me! 🤭
